Your Wedding Night

Order an extra package of fresh rose petals to decorate your wedding night suite. About an hour before you’re due to leave the reception, have a friend scatter the petals on on the floor leading to the bed, decorate the bedspread and if there’s a tub in the bathroom, consider putting a dish of petals to the side to float on the water once the bath has been drawn.

Materials

• Your choice of petals or botanicals.

• One wedding toss container per guest.

• Several large baskets or attractive containers for the finished tosses.

• Three to four wedding helpers.

Preparation

• Decide on the most appropriate time for your wedding toss . The toss is traditionally done on the steps of the church as the bride and groom walk outside, but for outdoor or other non-traditional wedding locations you may consider having the toss during the bride and groom’s recession.
• Decide how the petals will be distributed: For a toss during the recession, arrange for each guest to receive a filled container along with the wedding program as they enter before the ceremony. For a traditional toss outside the church, plan to have ushers and other helpers hold the baskets of containers or loose petals for guests to take as they exit the ceremony.
• Plan on one package of botanicals for every 20 containers.

Instructions

• At your rehearsal, make sure your helpers know where the tosses will be stored and when and how to distribute them (before or after the ceremony).
• If you are using fresh petals, have your wedding helpers fill the containers about an hour before the wedding. Our dried petals and botanicals can be prepared the night before and kept in a cool, dry place until they are ready to be used. Alternatively, have your helpers fill the baskets with loose botanicals.
• Your ushers and attendants should take the lead as to when the toss is to begin; once they start cheering and tossing the petals in the air, your guests will know it’s time to help create that picture-perfect moment.

Success Tips

• If you are using any of our dried petals or botanicals, keep the package sealed until the last possible moment so they will be drier and fly better.

• Consider adding a pretty tag to each toss containing a special message to prepare your guests for the toss. Write your own message or use one of ours:

To toss in the air and sprinkle around 
To shower the couple so that joy will abound.
When [bride] and [groom] exit with flair,
please joyously toss your petals high in the air!

After the big kiss, be ready for this;
The couple will smile as they walk down the aisle.
And that is your cue to toss high in the air,
these petals of love for this happiest pair.

Preparation

• Decide on a style for your walkway or aisle. Densely covered, lightly scattered, or edged where petals are placed only along the sides of the aisle to allow your flower girl to fill in the center with additional petals as she walks ahead of you.

• Any of our natural botanicals are appropriate for your walkway but you should compare freeze dried with fresh to decide what will work best for you. Consider combining your petals with Lavender Buds for added interest, color and texture.

• Measure the space that you wish to cover and then order enough petals to achieve your desired look. One package will densely cover a 3′ x 5′ area. If you’re going for a lightly scattered look, one package will cover a 3′ x10′ area.

• Arrange for your ushers or other trusted friends and family members to set up your walkway. Meet with them at the rehearsal so they are sure to understand the exact look you want to achieve.

Instructions

• Your helpers should start scattering the petals on the walkway or aisle 30 minutes before guests are due to arrive.

• As guests step over petals or the outdoor breeze picks up, one helper should remain there to fill in the area with more rose petals for subsequent guests and then for the bridal party as they enter.

Success Tips

• If you are using freeze dried petals open your petal package the day before the wedding so they’ll soften in the open air.

If your wedding is outdoors, have your helpers cover the finished walkway with large plastic tablecloths to keep the petals from blowing away; then have your helpers remove the tablecloths moments before guests and wedding party arrive for the ceremony.

Tabletop Splendor

• Scatter petals on guest tables. They can be used alone or arranged in combination with a centerpiece or a small group of votive candles.

• For a grander “Royal Wedding” look, completely cover the head table with fresh rose petals.

• Add a beautiful touch to the gift and cake tables by creating a soft border of rose petals along the outer edges of each table.

One bag of our petals will cover approximately six 60″ round tables with a lightly scattered look. For a more densely carpeted look, you’ll need one bag for every three tables.

Floating Rose Petal Centerpiece

• Fill small glass bowls half full with water and top them with rose petals.

• Place a floating candle in the middle of each bowl and ask the staff to light them all just before guests enter the reception hall. This is especially lovely at an evening ceremony.

Champagne on a Bed of Roses

• Add a fancy touch to the traditional wedding toast by lining your champagne serving trays with beds of rose petals.

Rose Coffee/Dessert Service

• When it’s time for coffee to be served, have your caterer place sugar cubes on each saucer with a rose petal underneath.

• Or, as you are cutting your wedding cake, have the server place a rose petal beneath the fork on each plate for a colorful and sweet floral treat.

Restroom Accents

Place bowls of fragrant lavender rose potpourri or rose petals mixed with French lavender buds on restroom vanities for a distinctive decorative look and lovely floral scent.

Fresh or Freeze Dried?

Any of our natural botanicals are appropriate for your flower girl toss but you should compare freeze dried with fresh to decide what will work best for you.

Ordering Your Petals

We recommend you order one package of our petals to fill one large or two small flower girl baskets.

You may want to consider creating a rose petal walkway before the ceremony. In this way, you will be sure to have a consistent carpet of petals even if the flower girl becomes distracted or throws all of her petals in her first few strides.

Practice, Practice

If your flower girl has a short attention span, you should start prepping her a few weeks before your ceremony. Present it to her as very important to you and a fun job too!

• Find an area that is about the same length as your wedding aisle – outdoors if possible – so the birds can be your clean-up.

• Fill her basket with plain popcorn (no oil or it may stain the basket).

• Work with your flower girl on the pace of her walk, how many petals to use for each toss and how frequently she should toss them. Emphasize that she’s not a baseball pitcher! She needs to pretend she is a beautiful princess with long, flowing arms and delicate moves.

• Give her a small, inexpensive basket to take home and ask her to practice with leaves or more popcorn.

• The day of the rehearsal she should try out her skills again.
